At the beginning of our second class of English 1101 we read
a poem by Langston Hughes, “Theme For
English B”. It was our starter, our writing into the day. I wrote,
-“This is
my theme for English B
a poem or
page that is true to me,
our daily
assignment to write in this notebook.
Now I
wonder what will I put?
Will I
write about me?
Or the
things I see?”
When we write in our daybooks we can write whatever we want to,
there is no specific format or guide line, we just write what we feel. I was inspired by Hughes poem to try and
write a poem myself. I am not at all a
writer, especially not a poem writer. If
I would have had more time I would’ve added to the poem and looking back now I would
change a few things. I would first
change the title from English B to English 1101 since that’s the title of our
class. Then I would add to the "poem"...
-“This is
my theme for English 1101
a poem or
page that is true to me,
our daily
assignment to write in this notebook.
Now I
wonder what will I put?
Will I
write about me?
Or the
things I see?
Who knows where this book might take
me?
At the end of this semester I’ll take
a look back just to see little changes Iike that
Maybe it’ll be me or my writing, we’ll
see.
I hope that by the end of this semester
my writing skills will grow and change by using this daybook. The daybook gives
me the opportunity to write what I think or how I feel about anything and
everything. I’ve never really been into
the whole blogging thing. In high school we had to post in blogs or comment on
them, but we never actually had our own blog. I’m actually excited about my
blog, and can’t wait to see what it’s going to turn into.

Hi Taylor, that was a really nice first entry. I am really impressed by the short poem you wrote in your day book. Knowing how much time we are given and how inept I personally am when it comes to poems, I can really appreciate how good that was. I think it is interesting that you did any work at all with blogs in high school. Hopefully that will give you a bit of an advantage to this class, since it seems we will be using blogs quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteHello Taylor, I think that it's great you want to use the daybook to your advantage. You'll find that it will help you (I had something like this in high school) and it's great that you're able to write a blog now instead of just reading them. I liked how well your poem came out to be with the little time we had. Also, if you think you're not a writer then you're wrong. Everybody's got some type of writing bone in them! You just got to find the muse that will get you started in something you'll love.
ReplyDeleteHey Taylor
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, that's was really creative thinking. Knowing that you can do that I can't wait to see if Lacy gives us some topic specific poems, can't wait to read yours. I know they'll be good.
Taylor, I am so excited that you used Langston Hughes' poem as a mentor text for your own writing. The way you describe that here really lets me in on your writing process. Then as I read I saw that you expanded and built on the things from your daybook and revised the poem for this posting. I love that you showed both pieces and the movement between them here. Thank you!
